Have reverential awe of God – Proverbs 13:1-4, Proverbs 13:10-12, Proverbs 14:26-27
Proverbs 13:1-4
13 A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
2 A man shall eat good (fig. for what’s gained by effort) by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors (traitors, faithless ones) shall eat violence.
3 He that keepeth (guards, protects) his mouth (fig. for what’s spoken thereby) keepeth (guards) his life (soul): but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.
4 The soul of the sluggard (sluggish, lazy) desireth (covets, waits longingly), and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent (incisive: having the ability to separate what’s superficial; constant in effort or exertion to accomplish) shall be made fat.
Proverbs 13:10-12
10 Only by pride cometh (only) contention (debate, strife): but with the well advised (modest) is wisdom.
11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour (by the hand ((for the labor effected)) shall increase.
12 Hope deferred (protracted, delayed) maketh the heart sick (deprive of strength, to weaken): but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life (the tree supporting and continuing life which had been imparted) .
Proverbs 14:26-27
26 In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.
27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
