636. Things that are seen are but for a moment

Things that are seen are but for a moment – 2 Corinthians 4:1-7, 2 Corinthians 4:17-18

2 Corinthians 4:1-7

Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint (to turn a coward, to lose one’s courage) not;

But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty (shame), not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation (revealing, unveiling) of the truth commending (to represent as worthy) ourselves to every man’s conscience (conscience of men) in the sight of God.

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost (perishing):

In whom the god of this world (age) hath blinded (to make blind, darkened) the minds (purpose, thoughts) of them which believe not, lest the light (illumination) of the glorious gospel of Christ (the messiah), who is the image (likeness)of God, should shine unto them.

For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus (as Christ) the Lord; and ourselves your servants for (on account of) Jesus’ sake.

For God, who commanded (spoke) the light (underived and absolute) to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light (the illumination) of the knowledge (experiential knowledge) of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency (surpassing, throwing beyond) of the power (inherent power) may be of God, and not of us.

2 Corinthians 4:17-18

17 For our light affliction (momentary lightness of our affliction), which is but for a moment, worketh (to work out) for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal (for a season); but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Things that are seen are but for a moment
