Christ actively received our sins – Matthew 5:38-42, Matthew 8:14-17, Matthew 5:1-10
Matthew 5:38-42
38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away (actively receive what is given) thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
Matthew 8:14-17
14 And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother laid, and sick of a fever.
15 And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them.
16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took (actively receive what is given) our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
Matthew 5:1-10
5 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed (happy) are the poor (crouching, begging: living on the alms of others) in spirit (operations of the holy spirit); for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed (happy) are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted (a consolation: the speaking which persuades and soothes).
5 Blessed (happy) are the meek (gentle, enduring all things with an even temper): for they shall inherit the earth (land).
6 Blessed (happy) are they which do hunger and thirst (idiom for a strong desire) after righteousness: for they shall be filled (fed or filled).
7 Blessed (happy) are the merciful (actively compassionate; not merely unhappy for the ills of others but delirious of relieving them): for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed (happy) are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed (happy) are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed (happy) are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
