Bullinger: Godliness: the opposite of religion. Godliness relates to real, true, vital and spiritual relation with God not religious (the outward acts of religious observances or ceremonies). 

Live a peaceable life free from agitation

1 Timothy 2:1-2

2 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications (prayers to do something), prayers (prayers to God), intercessions (prayers for something to be given), and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

² For kings, and for all that are in authority; (in order) that we may lead (not just to live but have a life) a quiet (free from agitation, not disturbed by others) and peaceable (undesturbed state of peace) life in (resting within) all godliness (real, true, vital spiritual relationship).

³ For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

Godliness:

1. Pray and liive a peaceable life free from agitation – 1 Timothy 2:2
2. Without controversy – 1 Timothy 3:16
3. Keeping your eyes open to seducing spirits – 1 Timothy 4:1-10
   1. Forbid to marry
   2. Abstaining from meats
   3. By refusing wives fables
   4. Exercising godliness
4. Godliness with contentment – 1 Timothy 6:5
5. Fight the good fight – 1 Timothy 6:11-14
6. God gave us all things for godliness – 2 Pe 1:1-8

Godliness with contentment

1 Timothy 6:1-10

6 Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.

² And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.

³ If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome (sound) words (logos: the spoken word as connected to the inner thought), even the words (those) of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine (the substance of teaching) which is according (motion towards with duration) to godliness (real, true, vital and spiritual relation with God);

⁴ He is proud (puffed up), knowing nothing, but doting (sick disease) about questions and strifes of words, whereof (out of which) cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings (under thought),

⁵ Perverse disputings (useless balancing, adjusting of accounts, computation, ie idle occupation) of men of corrupt (corrupted as to their) minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain (means of making money, financial gain) is godliness (real, true, vital and spiritual relation with God): from such withdraw (depart) thyself.

⁶ But godliness (real, true, vital and spiritual relation with God) with contentment (sufficiency with oneself, satisfied with your lot) is great gain.

⁷ For we brought nothing into this world (kosmos: the arrangement), and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

⁸ And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
