Abide or rest within Christ and love your neighbor
1 John 2:1-3
2 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not (“to the end that ye may not (commit) sin (habitually)). And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2 And he is the propitiation (make amends/the covering of sin by means of a sacrifice) for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
The law written on your heart
Romans 2:14-16
14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.
Godly grief works repentance or a change in moral position
2 Corinthians 7:10
10 For godly sorrow (grief) worketh repentance (a real change of mind from sin itself, a change of moral thought from sin nature to spiritual nature) to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
We cannot sin because we are born of God
1 John 3:9
9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
Abiding in Christ is keeping his “word”
1 John 2:3-5
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
Christ’s word and his commandment – Love your neighbor
John 15:8-13
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
1 John 3:23-24
23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
