NT – Building up not tearing down

BUILDING UP NOT TEARING DOWN

Context: Paul was reproving the Corinthians for putting trust in the Pharisees (the religious sect of the Jewish elite). After reproving them for believing or listening to what was being murmured about him he say the following:

2 Co 13:10 “Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification and not to destruction.”

God gave Paul the power to “act severely”, yet he was given this power for edification and not for destruction. God will give you knowledge and understanding, when you believe in Jesus Christ, through his wisdom and the Spirit. You will be more intelligent, you will see truth, you will have more logical arguments because he gives you the spirit of truth… yet with this wisdom, you are not to destroy (or tearing down) or for destruction, but contrariwise you are to your it for edification (Hebrew word for building up, raising a house)… you are to build up that person and the people (or the building) of God.
