NT – the fruit of the spirit, Jesus Christ removing our fleshly nature

THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT

Ga 5:22 “But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Ga 5:23 “meekness, temperance, against such there is not law”

Bullinger: Significance of the number 9… spiritual completion.

This is how we are to walk… and it is the spirit that God gives you that will provide it.

Ga 5:24 “And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections (passions) and lusts.”

Ga 5:25 “If we live in the spirit, let us walk in the spirit.”

Ga 5:26 “Let us not be delirious of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.”

If you want to treat people well, walk in the spirit that God gives you because it manifests or brings to fruition good and Godly things: Love, joy, peace, long suffering (patient endurance, long before anger), gentleness, goodness, etc…

Jesus Christ crucified the human nature or the flesh when he died for us, nailing it to the cross:

Colossians 2:11 “In whom (Jesus Christ) ye are also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands in putting off (or stripping off) the body of the flesh (the fleshly or man’s nature).

We are changed into the chosen or the children of God (the circumcised: Abraham’s sign) which allows us to strip off our natural tendencies as human.

Colossians 2:12 “Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God who raised him from the dead.”

Because Christ died for us, and was risen from the dead and abides in heaven as the mediator, it is the grace of God we can live in the same state as Jesus Christ in perfect peace.

Colossians 2:13 ” And you, being (at the time) dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, he hat quickened (made alive) together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses.”

The time BEFORE you believed Jesus Christ is your Lord and savior, lived in the uncircumcised state (or the state in which unbelievers live in… the fleshly, manly, human nature state that is contrary to God and under the 10 commandments) and therefore are considered to be dead. However, once you believe in Jesus Christ, that uncircumcised, deadly, natural state of man in which your actions and thoughts are contrary to walking righteously are instantly forgiven… making you free from the lawns of bondage or servitude to man’s natural state.

Colossians 2:14 “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to the cross.”

The law that was written contrary to man’s natural state and the one you had to follow in order to go to heaven, Jesus Christ covered over or whipped out having been nailed to the cross to do it for us. Therefore, we are righteous and can live in righteousness with one final commandment:

1 John 3:23 “that we should believe on the name of his son Jesus crest and love one another as he gave us commandment.
