Put on love – Colossians 3:1-14

Colossians 3:1-14

3 If ye then be risen (were raised with) with Christ (the messiah), seek (endeavor to find) those things which are above, where Christ (the messiah) sitteth on the right hand of God.

² Set your affection (mind) on things above, not on things on the earth (land).

³ For ye are dead (died), and your life is (has been) hid (laid up in store) with (in conjunction with) Christ (the messiah) in (resting within) God.

⁴ When Christ (the messiah), who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear (be manifested make visible) with him in glory.

⁵ Mortify (put to death) therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection (lust or passion), evil concupiscence (desire), and covetousness (wantonness), which is idolatry:

⁶ For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

⁷ In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.

⁸ But now ye also put off (like a tee shirt) all these; anger (anger with revenge), wrath (the causel passion that could lead to wrath) , malice (every form of evil), blasphemy (slander), filthy communication (the license of the ungoverned tongue, obscene lan

⁹ Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man (man nature) with his deeds (practice);

¹⁰ And have put on (like a tee shirt) the new man (new spiritual nature), which is renewed (daily acquiring strength) in knowledge (epignosis: a true and personal relationship with an object where you hear from that object and heed it’s advice) after (in parallel motion with) the image (pattern) of him that created him:

¹¹ Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

¹² Put on (like a tee shirt) therefore, as the elect (chosen) of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies (subjective compassion), kindness (sweetness of disposition input of ingratitude), humbleness (modesty) of mind, meekness (enduring all things with an even temper), longsuffering;

¹³ Forbearing (to hold up) one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel (complaint, occasion to blame) against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

¹⁴ And above all these things put on charity (love), which is the bond of perfectness.
