Serve in the newness of spirit – Romans 7:1-6, Romans 8:6-9

Romans 7:1-6

Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion (power) over a man as long as he liveth?

For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.

So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead (were put to death) to the law by (through) the body (crucified body) of Christ; that (to the end that) ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised (roused from sleep) from the dead, that we should (may) bring forth fruit unto God.

For when we were in the flesh, the motions (sinful motions) of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

But now we are delivered (to make useless, void) from the law, that being dead wherein we were held (having died (to that) in which we were held); that (so that) we should serve (do service) in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

Romans 8:6-9

For to be carnally minded (minding of the flesh) is death (the state of death); but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Because the carnal mind (minding of the flesh) is enmity against God: for it is not subject (does not submit itself) to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

So then they that are in (remaining within) the flesh (the old nature) cannot (are not able) please (to be pleasing or acceptable to) God.

But ye are not in the flesh (the old nature), but in (remaining within) the Spirit (new spiritual nature (Christ)), if so be that the Spirit of God dwell (inhabit) in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit (new spiritual nature) of Christ, he is none of his.
