Principles of prayers – Matthew 5:43-48; Matthew 6:5-8

Matthew 5:43-48

44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray (pray to God) for (on behalf of) them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Matthew 6:5-8

And when thou prayest, thou (ye praysest ye) shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray (pray to God) standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets (open places), that they may be seen (appear) of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou prayest (prayers to God), enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray (pray to God) to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for (remaining within) their much speaking.

Be not ye therefore like unto them…
