Pray without ceasing

Pray without ceasing

But (because) let us, who are of the day, be sober (temperate, watchful, circumspect), putting on the breastplate of faith (believing what you hear) and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation (safety).

For (because) God hath not appointed us to wrath (the coming wrath), but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish (to put into mind, to instruct) you;

13 And to esteem (reckon) them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

14 Now we exhort (call aside, appeal) you, brethren, warn (to put into mind, instruct) them that are unruly (disorderly), comfort (sooth or pacify) the feebleminded (faint hearted), support (hold fast, cleave, faithfully care for) the weak, be patient (slow to anger or passion) toward all men.

16 Rejoice (delighted, pleased, glad) evermore (always, eternally).

17 Pray (prayers to God) without ceasing (unceasing, without intermission).

18 In (resting within) every thing give thanks (or to shew oneself thankful): for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

19 Quench (extinguish not) not the Spirit (spiritual operations of the holy spirit and its gifts).

20 Despise (treat not as contemptible) not prophesyings.

21 Prove all things (same as try the spirits); hold fast that which is good.

Pray without ceasing

THE LORD’S PRAYER

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in (resting within) heaven (the heavenlies), Hallowed (sanctified) be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in (upon) earth, as it is in (resting within) heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily (coming or deciding upon as did manna the true bread of heaven: God’s word) bread.

12 And forgive us our debts (or sins), as we forgive (have forgiven) our debtors.

13 And lead (bring) us not into temptation (temptations), but deliver (rescue) us from (the) evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
