Study: Thought

Matthew 6: 25, 27, 28, 31, 34 twice, 10:19, Luke 12: 11, 22, 26

Bullinger – Thought – To be full of anxiety which divides up and distracts the mind, to be full of cares, anxious; be full of anxious or distracting care

Matthew 6:25 – Don’t take an anxious thought for your life (carnal being), life is more than that. Instead, seek ye the kingdom and these things shall be added unto you.

By having anxious thoughts, it doesn’t produce an outcome (Matthew 6:27). God takes care of everything, shall he not take care of you? Therefore, take no anxious thought of tomorrow. Tomorrow will take care of itself.

25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought (be not anxious, be not careful, full of care or overly anxious) for your life (breath of animal life, hence the living individual as such, carnal man’s existence, his life that can be lost), what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body (as a whole, whether man or animals, dead or alive. The necessary constituent part and organic basis of human nature, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

27 Which of you by taking thought (anxious thought, that which divides and distracts the mind) can add one cubit unto his stature?

28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

31 Therefore take no thought (anxious thought, that which divides and distracts the mind), saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Matthew 10:7-20 – If you’re brought up before anyone to speak about Jesus Christ, be not anxious or take no anxious thought, for God will speak through you. Therefore, never condemn yourself when it comes to speaking about Jesus Christ, for God is with you and His word never comes back void)

Matthew 10:7-20

17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;

18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.

19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.

20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.

Luke 12:21-31 – Additional scripture concerning being not of anxious thought.

21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.

23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.

24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?

25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?

26 If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?

27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?

29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind (to lift up on high, raise in the air. to be fluctuating in mind {as if floating in the air}.

30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.

31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
