To Judge: Kittel 3:921 (924)

The word Judgement in Judaism:

Kittle 3:921

1.God judges and does not let evil occur without resisting it

2.Unseperately related to the law

OLD TESTATMENT – to judge

Early Jews – Early Jews looked forward with hope and joy to the judgement which would bring redemption to the Jews & Israel. They were enslaved by the gentiles and therefore looked forward to God’s judgement to free them.

the Pharisees: The Pharisees believed in a resurrection from the dead when men would stand before God’s judgement even if it didn’t effect them in this life. Therefore, they were concerned with achieving merits to outweigh their sin… To stand in constant judgement.. Looked at the messiah as the executor not the intermediary to remove sin.

NEW TESTAMENT – to judge

Still refers to judgement based on the law… and refers to Jesus liberating all judgement which is why the Jews rejected the teachings.

When we read the word “judge” it is not to discern between right and wrong based on the world’s or cultural standards. It is referring to the “judgement” that comes from heaven and determines whether you’re going to heaven or not. Jesus Christ died for this and therefore we are free from the law and therefore sin. The only commandment we have is to love God, believe in the name of Jesus Christ and love your neighbor.

Insert the verse about God’s commandment “love they brother as thyself… ” something like that.
